At Poppyhead Consultancy we strive to provide a quality service that is value for money and to deliver stunning contemporary outside spaces. This page outlines the overall approach that we take to designing and delivering outside spaces and the services that we offer.
At the initial consultation we will discuss the way we will work with you, your requirements and aspirations for your garden as well as the overall budget. We use this client brief as the start point for the design process and create mood boards that illustrated the type of garden to be created. This may include materials, garden images, planting styles and anything else that inspires the design process.
We use this information together with the site survey and analysis (a scaled drawing of the site and interpretation of its opportunities and limitations) (which can be done by us or by a professional surveyor, depending upon the garden and requirements), to develop the design.
We create 3D visuals of the outside space, together with an annotated 2D plan (The Masterplan). We discuss the design development with you and share the 3D models prior to final masterplan development.
Once the overall layout is agreed, a detailed Planting Plan that shows the detailed planting in plan form is produced. This shows the plants, their location, numbers and sizes. The planting design is based on a number of factors including the site conditions, colour, form, texture and season of interest of the plants.
A schedule that lists all the plants and details for ordering is produced. A Maintenance Schedule that details what needs to be done to the plants and when is also included to help ensure that the plants are appropriately maintained after planting.
Liaison with the Planning Authorities, as required, can also be undertaken as part of the design process.
We are able to project manage delivery of the scheme as required. This is a critical aspect of the overall process and involves the organizing of the construction works. We will produce construction drawings for bespoke elements required together with a technical Specification to enable the tendering of the works to selected contractors. We undertake this process to ensure that value for money is obtained for clients. We operate independently from contractors who build the garden to ensure that we obtain the best possible outcome in terms of quality and cost for our clients.
Upon identification of the preferred contractor a contract is formed between the contractor and the client. We will work with the contractor to ensure effective delivery of the scheme, including provision of setting out drawings and checking the setting out; visits to site during the build to establish progress and to ensure effective completion of the works. Project management costs are dependent upon the size of the scheme and our required involvement.
We will usually assist with plant sourcing and liaison with top quality specialist nurseries, as well as setting out on site prior to planting to ensure correct placement.
We can also work with you on an ongoing basis, perhaps annually, to review the planting and development of the garden over time.
We will visit you in your garden and walk around the garden with you, looking at particular areas you would like to focus your attentions upon, difficult areas or an overview of the whole garden. We will provide a report of the visit, with recommendations and suggestions, including planting and management advice as well as links and recommendations of suppliers. The report will be tailored to your specific site and preferred garden design styles and will be provided digitally.
